Cake Decorating With Fondant: Rolling Out Fondant.

by Chocolate Belles on March 23, 2010

If you are planing to decorate fondant cakes, you might consider investing into some basic tools such as fondant mat and rolling pins. We recommend silicon mats and rolling pins. To roll out your fondant use confectioners sugar sprinkling it over the mat and the fondant to prevent fondant from sticking to your mat or your rolling pin. If rolling out fondant to cover a cake you need to consider in the height of the cake. For example of you need to cover a round cake that is 10 inches in diameter and 3 inches tall, you need to roll out a round piece of fondant that is 16 inches in diameter or more. It is always easier to cut off the access fondant rather than trying to stretch it. Rolling out fondant is not a difficult step, roll it out as would your dough. Watch the video bellow to see how.

by Chocolate Belles on March 20, 2010

Today you can purchase fondant that is already colored. You are making a cake in deep colors such as black or red you can use a pre-colored fondant. However you can color your white fondant into any color you want using food coloring. The same food coloring you would use to color your butter cream icing. In the video bellow Ann shows you how to color your fondant. You need to start by adding very little food coloring at the time, using a tooth pick. If you want your fondant to be a deep color you need to gradually add more food coloring to it.
